  1. Those look good. Back in Tejas we only load the top 2/3rds of the tortilla so we can fold up the bottom and trap the mess.
  2. New place for us yesterday, I had a so-so Sunday roast plate, which came out quickly because that is already cooked. I finished and we waited another 20 minutes for my daughter's order. I was ready to write the place off when she announced that this was the best mac and cheese she ever tasted. Since she orders that whenever it's on the menu, she would know. https://www.google.com/maps/place/The+Loft+Sports+Pub+%26+Grill/@12.9394615,100.9705088,17.75z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x310295565aeca749:0x1cb6c403a3780e3f!8m2!3d12.9391223!4d100.9730483!16s%2Fg%2F11c1wxxr3y?entry=ttu
  3. We brought our knife set in the container from the states. Extremely sharp. I had to smile watching her working her steak knife through her hockey puck. To be fair, she seemed to enjoy it. If I know she's coming by again I'll get her one of those Thai Brahman steaks.
  4. Today my daughter and I began the quest to use as few dishes at home as possible for the next nine days while her mom is upcountry. She chose the same restaurant that TW and I went to Tuesday. She had chicken penne alfredo. Mine was corned beef on rye.
  5. Last night: Australian ribeyes, paprika potato wedges, bratwurst and krakauer wurst. TW's cousin was there to help with the drive to the village upcountry in the morning. When I asked how she wanted her steak she said, in different words, shoe leather. I made it that way but hated doing that to an imported, dry aged, steak. Plated.
  6. I think what helps us over here is we're fairly close (800+m) to the ocean and the prevailing wind is coming from the south off the ocean. Farther north Rayong can get some pollution, but it's blown away from where we are.
  7. My phone cam isn't the greatest, but the sky is blue if a bit cloudy an hour east of Pattaya.
  8. I love SE Texas, and hope to visit again with the family someday. But this is home.
  9. I recently picked up an Xreal Air 2 with Beam attachment. Expensive, but it projects a private a wide screen TV wherever I go in the form of oversized sunglasses and an iPod sized device. Very wide, 330 inch is possible, though I find 105 inch more than enough. I wanted it for long trips as a passenger on ground or air transport. Download some entertainment, run games, or stream if you're on ground transport, and you're in your own little theater. I find my self using it at home daily as well. Much larger and clearer than our flat screen TVs, and doesn't disturb TW if she wants to sleep before me, unless I'm watching something that makes me laugh. It's pretty anti-social. You're the only one who can see or hear what you playing, though I've let wife and daughter check it out so they understand what I'm doing when I'm using it. I tend to leave it upstairs during the day when we're doing stuff together. Also when I'm using it at night I face the bedroom door and it can be disorienting when someone walks in through your TV.
  10. In the states 15-20% is normal in sit down restaurants, etc. The service standards are much higher than here and places in Europe that I've been. Here I've dialed it back to a bit under 10% in most cases, but I'll bump it up if the service was very good. I don't necessarily know that it's respect you get for that, but you are remembered and the service levels are good on subsequent visits.
  11. We shared a French onion soup and jalapeno poppers. Blue cheese, bacon, mushroom burger for me. Nachos for her.
  12. Kind of the time they were transitioning to the Allah Akbar crowd. After a couple stays I moved on to staying at the Ambassador.
  13. I was coming in from Saudi about that time as well, though I woke up at the Grace.
  14. TW's birthday cake. Photo taken before putting the two candles that show her age on it, because she knows I post to the food thread, and I want to live.
  15. Overcast down by the beach, but that kept the temperatures down. All of Northern and Eastern Europe were represented there, based on the various languages I overheard.
  16. Japan should be included in soy but a lot of south east Asia should be fish sauce 😃
  17. Dang. The US Marines make you buy your own uniforms. The first set is taken out of your paycheck before you get it after completing boot camp. I assume other US services do the same.
  18. Cheddar and mozzarella stuffed meatloaf with sautéed mushrooms and onions.
  19. Grilled pork, spicy ground pork salad, and waterfall pork at Puan Isan.
