  1. Sorry I missed seeing this. That was very kind of you. I was in Bali for the month and had a great time. I could see relocating to Indonesia. How was your trip?
  2. You were right about that buffet. It’s 130 baht and very good. I’ve been going most mornings. It’s maybe a 10 minute walk from my hotel. Thanks for the tip. This is the whole reason I’m here. The sharing of useful information.
  3. I’m heading back to Chiang Mai this week, I’ll give that buffet a try. For 160 baht it looks very good. Thanks.
  4. Personally, I hope they tear the whole thing down. Ugly, and it louses up a lot of views. Hopefully nobody here put any money into this.
  5. Very nice review, as always. And timely. I’ve been looking for a new rib joint ever since Smokin’ Joe’s stopped doing their specials. Spending 465 baht for a half rack of ribs is a bit hard for me to justify. Though it’s funny, when I got here I’d say, “500 baht? Hell, that’s not much” but after a year I say, “500 baht? That’s a lot of money.” As you’ve mentioned before, for less than 300 baht, you can find some very good food in Pattaya. It is a pleasure searching for it.
  6. Your posts have been a pleasure to read. I personally would enjoy seeing the rest of this series. This is, of course, your choice. I’ve been living in Thailand but plan to explore more of SEA soon, since who knows how long any of us have. Regardless, Thank you.
  7. Right now, waiting for my girlfriend to finish making dinner. We went to the Old Market in Naklua today. Sunday is crowded enough, worse with a Thai holiday coming up. But that is some very nice seafood, and we bought a lot. Life is good lads.
  8. Nice. Thanks. Where are you finding them on special?
  9. So what are you drinking now, or have you given up on wine?
  10. You’re kidding? It used to be 150 baht? I guess the old days really were better. Still, beats the hell out of my old life.
  11. The prices there are even worse than Thailand? Damn! That said. I have to get to Indonesia within the next year. I’ve got your posts saved and plan on reading them soon.
  12. Lately, I’ve finally been able to start drinking wine again. And I’m looking for something decent to drink. I know I’ll be paying too much, but I don’t drink in bars really. So making dinner at home and cracking a bottle, or getting wine out is a luxury I’m willing to pay for. Any recommendations on a decent red? Mainly for drinking with dinner, and afterwards. I’ve had Mont Clair, and picked up a nice half bottle of one of the Jacob’s Creek reds. Both were enjoyable. I’m not looking for wonderful 10,000 baht bottles, but just good, satisfying everyday wine. That said, if anyone knows of any fantastic but more expensive wines, please tell me. Are any of the Thai wines worth trying?
  13. Damn. We were there in December of last year. Maybe you just hit an off day. I’ll give it a shot next time I’m back anyway. I’ve got a lot more places to go first. Living the dream.
  14. Damn. I miss Chiang Mai. And I just saw on YouTube, there’s a place that rents condos reasonably at even a monthly rate. I might spend a month there next time. Have fun. It’s an amazing place. If you’re touring around, we hit the Queen Sirikit Gardens up in the mountains. And the Butterfly and Orchid Park. Had a great day doing that.
  15. Chiang Mai Breakfast World. German Restaurant with a great Western breakfast menu. We had some great breakfasts there. Not cheap but very good Western breakfasts. I ate a lot of breakfasts there. We did have a bear of a time finding it. Chiang Mai has all these twisty little sois. But I’m very glad we persevered. Between there for breakfast, and all the night markets for dinner, we ate very well there. I miss Chiang Mai. 16. This is my favorite vehicle of all time. I could go anywhere and do anything. So I did. When I retired, I bought the camper used for a few thousand dollars and traveled around America. I couldn’t come to Thailand, my dog was already 13 and the heat would have killed him. So we bummed around and had the best time of my life. Now I’m here full time, life is even better. I just got my Thai license. Unfortunately Jeeps are crazy expensive here. But then, I’m retired, and living in Thailand. It’s hard to complain.😆
  17. Wonderful. I’m glad you’re doing restaurant reviews here. A few notes from my own recent experiences. Often on Fridays I’ll head over to the Sportsman on soi 13 for their pizza buffet. Their pizza is good, typical thin crust. 249 baht and you must buy one drink. I’m still amazed that I can find good pizza in Thailand. Lately, in Bangkok I’ve used the Eatigo app for up to 50% off on food. For me, it was very worthwhile. Often I’d save over 300 baht on a meal. So now I’m back in Pattaya, last night a friend and I went to S.E.A Restaurant in Hotel Baraquda. It’s still low season, thankfully, so there was no one else there our entire visit. We ordered a fried seafood appetizer and the grilled beef tenderloin. The seafood was good, but the typical fried seafood you can get so many places here. It did have a very nice mayonnaise and horseradish sauce. The steak was the best chunk of beef I’ve had here in Thailand. I was pleasantly surprised, very surprised. I’d given up on finding good beef here. I will definitely go back for that again. The cost was 690 baht for the steak, half off is 345. The seafood was less than 200 after discount, so the total cost of the food was under 600 for two. If anyone else has been there please let me know. The other afternoon I returned to my old standby, Smokin’ Joe’s BBQ. I had a craving for their ribs. I was sad to see that they no longer do the dinner specials. Most of the specials took 100 baht off each dinner. So the rack of ribs for 465 baht used to be 365 on Tuesday. I felt the 365 baht was expensive, but worth it occasionally. At 465 it’s very hard for me to justify going there since there are so many good meals to be had in Pattaya for under 299 baht. A subject near and dear to my heart, eating in Pattaya.
  18. Thank you for posting this. I’ve been starting to travel to the Thai islands. So far I’ve only been to Koh Larn and Koh Samet. Koh Chang looks very nice. How long would you recommend staying? At least 2 nights?
  19. My me lang = I have no power. Handy for saying to the girls when they’re asking you to come in for a “special” massage. But don’t say it to a ladyboy. They’ll just tell you “that’s ok, I boom boom you”.
  20. I’m reading Life 3.0 by Max Tegmark. Interesting read. These days I keep everything I read up in the cloud, and can pull any of it down onto my phone for reading. Probably what I do most of the time with my phone. And reading assorted trash and nonsense as well.
  21. “photography”. Ok. If that’s what you want to call it. Hey, I don’t judge. I don’t know why girls on motorbikes look so sexy. Especially when they’re driving.
  22. Hi. I’m drifter. I’ve been living in Pattaya for over a year now Edit: like a lot of the other posters, I saw the reborn Stickman site mention here, so came over for a look
