  1. Besides being a funny video, this also demonstrates the all too common problem of the dog's human companion giving a command with no follow through if it's ignored. Quite telling at the 0:48 mark after the 10th attempt to get the dogs out of the pool the big boss comes on the scene, issues the command to come and both dogs obey. Then again if they did obey the lady we wouldn't have a funny video to watch.
  2. @Yessongs what happened to the tires that you had reserved, did they sell them to someone else? That possibility jogged a memory from about 15 years ago when I was getting my then GF's land ready for planting rubber trees. Having read up on the different hybrids I selected the hybrid I wanted and found a nursery with the seedlings in stock. Visited the nursery with my GF and agreed on the price they were asking, locked in the deal with a deposit and reserved the seedlings for planting after the dry season ended in two months time. The picture below are the seedlings with my lady's name proudly displayed showing they were reserved for her and the 1,000B deposit paid. That turned out to be a smart move as over the next two months demand for that particular hybrid increased, which in turn brought about a significant price increase in the seedlings. Well planting time rolls around, we drive the truck up to the nursery only to find they had sold our reserved stock to someone else because of the higher price they could get. It was only after we returned home I also learned the greedy bastards had also cheated my lady out of her deposit as well. Amazing Thailand.
  3. Called rolling coal and the drivers of those trucks are first class douche bags.
  4. Yes, but one of the particulates in cigarette smoke is fine particulate matter which is what the Air Quality Index is a measure of. Cigarette smoke produces 10 times more air pollution than diesel car exhaust The air pollution emitted by cigarettes is 10 times greater than diesel car exhaust, suggests a controlled experiment, reported in Tobacco Control. Environmental tobacco smoke produces fine particulate matter, which is the most dangerous element of air pollution for health. Levels indoors can far exceed those outdoors, because new engine models and lead free fuels have cut the levels of particulate matter emissions from car exhausts, say the authors. The controlled experiment was carried out in a private garage in a small mountain town in northern Italy. The town enjoys very low levels of particulate matter air pollution A turbo diesel 2 litre engine was started and left idling for 30 minutes in the garage, with the doors closed, after which the doors were left open for four hours. The car was fuelled with low sulphur fuel. Three filter cigarettes were then lit up sequentially, and left smouldering for a further 30 minutes. The nicotine and tar content of each cigarette was 1 mg and 11.2 mg, respectively. A portable analyser took readings every two minutes during the experiments. Combined particulate levels in the first hour after the engine had been started measured 88 ug/m3. Those recorded in the first hour after the cigarettes had been lit measured 830 ug/m3: 10 times greater. The diesel engine exhaust doubled the particulate matter levels found outdoors at its peak; the environmental tobacco smoke particulate matter reached levels 15 times those measured outdoors.
  5. 37 will be my next trigger point. Did the same during the last run up back in October. Moved chunks of money over at 35, 36 and tried, but failed when it hit 37. I figure I might as well bank the money here for future use when the exchange rate is that favorable.
  6. Now waiting for the gas bottle delivery guy to come back. He left a few minutes ago after delivering a fresh bottle. While making the delivery my three dogs took off through the open gate to be with my lady who was a couple of houses down visiting with a friend. After the delivery guy left I walked down to see if she wanted to keep the dogs there and mentioned the gate was opened while the gas guy made a delivery. I had to laugh when she said what delivery, she hadn't called the gas company. Turns out the guy delivered to the wrong address, but I had just assumed my lady had called them and left to visit the neighbor knowing I could handle the delivery and payment. Thus I'm now waiting for him to come back and return our still partially full gas bottle, and the 460B I paid him.
  7. Lucky you, you caught a 200B voucher.
  8. The detector is a SNDWAY SW-825 purchased from Lazada (link). It's an interesting piece of gear to have, but we had a discussion earlier today what would you do differently based on the reading.
  9. Cool. We no longer need the iqair.com site as we can just ring you up for a reading. Edited to add: I bet you flipped the coaster over after you took the picture.
  10. USD is up too. Hit my trigger point of 36 so initiated a transfer last night and the deposit hit my account this morning at 35.98. Happy days.
  11. Smart move on his part to test over water. Much softer landing if something fails than if he were over land. Glad they didn't overlay the soundtrack with music. Interesting to hear just how loud those spinning props are.
  12. ^^^ You're right about that. There is a positive though, the temps are considerably cooler from a couple of days ago.
  13. ^^^ The DNSO puts on some amazing performances. Think I posted this one before, but it's so good it's worthy of a repost.
  14. Hope it's the real deal and not a Chinese copy from Lazada.
  15. ^^^ You're right we tend to get complacent living here and that the goings on in Pattaya become the new normal. Good to be reminded every now and then we're lucky to be living in the world's best adult Disneyland.
  16. Perfect light rain shower for the garden. Smells a lot better than the polluted air too.
  17. I thought you were traveling alone. Didn't realize you were traveling with a party of six. Safe travels.
  18. My lady was on her way back from BKK yesterday when she got caught in the heavy rains around Sri Racha. In a call she mentioned flooding on Hwy 7, but don't think it was as bad as in the pictures below. Just slowed traffic down to a crawl. https://www.facebook.com/Thepattayanews/posts/1347855202649724
  19. That would be a first. I've done one visa transfer and no passbook was asked for, nor have others I know that have gone through the process been asked.
  20. I just remembered another option for solar heating and that is a simple solar pool cover. I used one when I had a pool back in the US and it worked reasonably well, even in the cooler climate of Wisconsin. I expect it work even better here as it would help retain the heat in the water during the cool nights, as well as provide increased solar heating during the day. Two other benefits would be reduced water loss due to evaporation and keeping the wind born crap out of the water.
  21. The bigger question is what piss poor planning had them put in place and then not used.
  22. Some interesting points about rental EV's made in this article. Hertz CEO out following electric car ‘horror show’ ... But the problem for Hertz wasn’t necessarily that the cars were electric, and customers simply do not want to drive electric cars. The problem was how Hertz handled the fleet in general, according to industry analysts. “The execution and marketing of EV’s [by Hertz] was a horror show across the board,” said Daniel Ives, an analyst with Wedbush Securities who follows the EV market. “It’s a black eye they couldn’t recover from.” Part of the problem for Hertz was that even people who might want to buy an EV wouldn’t necessarily want to rent one while on the road, when they don’t necessarily have the ability to plug them in to charge them as they would at a private home. There might not be a charging station, or enough time, for a rental car customer to charge an EV, Ives said. By hewing to charging rules the way Hertz has enforced refueling rules, it may have dissuaded customers from wanting to rent an electric car. Without building any charging infrastructure at its rental locations, Hertz may have hurt its own business. “They don’t want to go 20 minutes out of their way at five in the morning to find a charging station,” Ives said. ... Even without the drop in value of the cars it bought, Hertz struggled with collision and damage repairs on an EV running about twice that associated with a comparable combustion engine vehicle, Scherr told investors on a 2023 call. ...
