  1. If you had waited to just after your b'day the expiration date would be five years from your next birthdate. And an early happy b'day to you.
  2. More details on how LEO's reacted quickly to shut down the bridge with the last vehicle exiting less than 30 seconds before the collapse of the bridge.
  3. Rain now finished and sun is out. Humidity levels going up so that's it for my outside work for the day.
  4. Amazing only six are missing. I noticed in the OP's video you can see vehicle traffic on the bridge up until just before the collision. From the news report someone on the bridge heard the ship's mayday call and reacted quickly enough to stop traffic. Hats off to those that heard the call and blocked traffic as they saved many lives. RIP to the workers that were working directly above the collision point and fell to their deaths. Six presumed dead after cargo ship crash levels Baltimore bridge, company says ... Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, confirmed that six were presumed dead and one survived during a telephone interview with NBC News. Their names were not released. Pritzker's announcement came just hours after Maryland Gov. Wes Moore insisted there was still hope that the crew, who vanished after the Francis Scott Key Bridge disintegrated from the impact, might still be found alive despite having been in the freezing water for hours. ... Moore said there might have been drivers in the water were it not for the “folks” who, upon hearing the mayday, blocked off the bridge and kept other cars from crossing. “These people are heroes,” Moore said. “They saved lives. They saved lives.” ... Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said the workers on the bridge were repairing concrete ducts when the ship crashed into the structure. At least seven workers were pouring concrete to fix potholes on the roadway on the bridge directly above where the ship hit, a foreman named James Krutzfeldt said. ...
  5. They're still calling it a rescue operation, but given the low water temps it's doubtful at this point in time that they will rescue more than the two that have already been saved. Can't begin to imagine the death toll if this had happened during the day.
  6. It's a crap shoot which month has the most rainfall, Sept or Oct. Last year Oct won out. Personally I wouldn't let the rainy season affect my travel plans as the rains last only an hour or two. The exception would be if we get hit with a tropical storm, but those have been rare the last several years. And even if it does rain, you'll have the shiny new Las Vegas Beer Garden to wait out the rain in. But then again, maybe not. http://www.pattayaweather.net/Historical-Weather-Statistics.html
  7. Nah, just not thinking it through. Some hares are better at designing trails, while others are just lazy, or don't care when it comes to a well thought out trail. There are also hares that just go out and wing it rather than use technology to help them design a great trail. For Saturday's trail it's easy enough to see via Google Earth the alternative trails that could have been used. As an example, the blue lines below are trails we've used in the past, the green line is Saturday's trail. For the "Tramac Section" and the "Bloody Hot Section" it would have been easy enough to head into the areas marked "Shady Area I Would Have Used". But the hares on Saturday aren't comfortable with using GPS logs and Google Earth for planning, so we ended up with a less than ideal trail. Not really an issue as most of the guys are pretty fit, and we take comfort in the knowledge there will be plenty of beer waiting for us at the end. As an aside, no surprise given the heat our beer consumption was up. The 46 hashers consumed 297 cans and bottles of beer at a total cost of 10,078B. By that measure it was a great day out.
  8. Iffy has turned to certainty. Now raining near Suk and Klang. If the plants in the garden didn't have roots, they'd be dancing for joy.
  9. I'm hearing rumbles from the NE. Iffy right now if the rain will make it to central Pattaya.
  10. Reading this news report I got to wondering why we don't read more news reports of fires on ships caused by lightning strikes. Part of the reason I know is built into ships are measures to direct the energy from a strike into the water to avoid damage to the ship. Fire extinguished on Carnival Freedom cruise ship after witnesses reported possible lightning strike I did a search on YT for video of the fire and two things became quickly apparent. One is the list of videos had the same ship with a fire on the opposite, starboard, funnel from a year ago. The second is in the latest video of a fire on the port side funnel you can hear the guy saying "it's amazing, it's on fire again". I suspect there's more to this story than what is being reported in the latest news article.
  11. Not really the humidity that gets to me, but the oppressive heat of the sun beating down on you when you're out in the open for extended periods of time. I wasn't happy with the trail the hares set. So many opportunities to avoid the farm fields and keep us under shade, but instead, for whatever reason they elected to use the unshaded areas. The worst was one section that went 600m on tarmac road. With the heat it felt like twice the distance. All the while I'm trudging along the road I'm looking to the left at beautiful tree canopy that if I were the hare I would have looped the trail through. For those that aren't familiar with hash runs. There's two or more hares that set trail a day or two before a run. They use hanging paper and bits of shredded paper on the ground to mark the trail. On the day of the run the hounds, us, are dropped off at a start point and we follow the trail to the end where we drink copious amounts of beer and tell embarrassing stories about our fellow hashers. The link below is to the run report for Saturday's run. You can view run photos and a map of the trail that we ran, or in my case mostly walked. Hopefully later today we'll also have posted a scribe report detailing in humorous fashion the day's run. https://pattayamonkeyh3.com/PMH3/RunReportLkup.html?109
  12. If they had used flammable cladding the resulting fire would have probably made international news. Fortunately they didn't go cheap but instead used nonflammable cladding. It'll still burn, but at a much slower rate giving the fire crew time to put out the fire.
  13. If you were there around 20:00 you would have seen our group of hashers crowd into an already very busy HA. It was too crowded for my taste, so called it an early evening. I understand a few stayed quite late as HA is probably the #1 place to be on Soi Boomerang.
  14. Now recovering from yesterday's hash run. It was hot day out under the sun. Quite a bit of the trail was through cassava fields. Quite happy when the trail brought us shade in rubber tree plantations. 9 km later the beer truck was in sight and liquid refreshments awaited.
  15. Besides being a funny video, this also demonstrates the all too common problem of the dog's human companion giving a command with no follow through if it's ignored. Quite telling at the 0:48 mark after the 10th attempt to get the dogs out of the pool the big boss comes on the scene, issues the command to come and both dogs obey. Then again if they did obey the lady we wouldn't have a funny video to watch.
  16. @Yessongs what happened to the tires that you had reserved, did they sell them to someone else? That possibility jogged a memory from about 15 years ago when I was getting my then GF's land ready for planting rubber trees. Having read up on the different hybrids I selected the hybrid I wanted and found a nursery with the seedlings in stock. Visited the nursery with my GF and agreed on the price they were asking, locked in the deal with a deposit and reserved the seedlings for planting after the dry season ended in two months time. The picture below are the seedlings with my lady's name proudly displayed showing they were reserved for her and the 1,000B deposit paid. That turned out to be a smart move as over the next two months demand for that particular hybrid increased, which in turn brought about a significant price increase in the seedlings. Well planting time rolls around, we drive the truck up to the nursery only to find they had sold our reserved stock to someone else because of the higher price they could get. It was only after we returned home I also learned the greedy bastards had also cheated my lady out of her deposit as well. Amazing Thailand.
  17. Called rolling coal and the drivers of those trucks are first class douche bags.
  18. Yes, but one of the particulates in cigarette smoke is fine particulate matter which is what the Air Quality Index is a measure of. Cigarette smoke produces 10 times more air pollution than diesel car exhaust The air pollution emitted by cigarettes is 10 times greater than diesel car exhaust, suggests a controlled experiment, reported in Tobacco Control. Environmental tobacco smoke produces fine particulate matter, which is the most dangerous element of air pollution for health. Levels indoors can far exceed those outdoors, because new engine models and lead free fuels have cut the levels of particulate matter emissions from car exhausts, say the authors. The controlled experiment was carried out in a private garage in a small mountain town in northern Italy. The town enjoys very low levels of particulate matter air pollution A turbo diesel 2 litre engine was started and left idling for 30 minutes in the garage, with the doors closed, after which the doors were left open for four hours. The car was fuelled with low sulphur fuel. Three filter cigarettes were then lit up sequentially, and left smouldering for a further 30 minutes. The nicotine and tar content of each cigarette was 1 mg and 11.2 mg, respectively. A portable analyser took readings every two minutes during the experiments. Combined particulate levels in the first hour after the engine had been started measured 88 ug/m3. Those recorded in the first hour after the cigarettes had been lit measured 830 ug/m3: 10 times greater. The diesel engine exhaust doubled the particulate matter levels found outdoors at its peak; the environmental tobacco smoke particulate matter reached levels 15 times those measured outdoors.
  19. 37 will be my next trigger point. Did the same during the last run up back in October. Moved chunks of money over at 35, 36 and tried, but failed when it hit 37. I figure I might as well bank the money here for future use when the exchange rate is that favorable.
  20. Now waiting for the gas bottle delivery guy to come back. He left a few minutes ago after delivering a fresh bottle. While making the delivery my three dogs took off through the open gate to be with my lady who was a couple of houses down visiting with a friend. After the delivery guy left I walked down to see if she wanted to keep the dogs there and mentioned the gate was opened while the gas guy made a delivery. I had to laugh when she said what delivery, she hadn't called the gas company. Turns out the guy delivered to the wrong address, but I had just assumed my lady had called them and left to visit the neighbor knowing I could handle the delivery and payment. Thus I'm now waiting for him to come back and return our still partially full gas bottle, and the 460B I paid him.
  21. Lucky you, you caught a 200B voucher.
  22. The detector is a SNDWAY SW-825 purchased from Lazada (link). It's an interesting piece of gear to have, but we had a discussion earlier today what would you do differently based on the reading.
  23. Cool. We no longer need the iqair.com site as we can just ring you up for a reading. Edited to add: I bet you flipped the coaster over after you took the picture.
