  1. This may be a tough one for some of you. This was here in town not on the darkside.
  2. I wish I could get 4 tires for $100. I would bet if I went to a used tire place I couldn't get that price anymore. Things have changed in the US over the last 20+ years.
  3. Tires on new cars generally are called mileage saver and have less weight for better gas milage (also less tread). Expect to get about 50k kilometers or less on them. They are cheaper for the car company. If you want quiet tires then name brand are generally going to be better. I get Michelin (130k km) for my nice car because if I break it down the cost of mounting/balancing and road hazard adds to the cost and I would have to pay those fees twice with cheap tires on a car I drive quite a bit and they ride nice. I have another car I don't drive much and on those I buy the cheap tires with a 65k kilometer tread life and they have been great just a bit louder. I have heard that cheaper tires use less natural rubber and that is what can make them louder. I have heard of people when buying a new car negotiating to get better tires to close the deal. Larry - It's been a while since you bought a car tire as I just bought one on sale at Walmart for $53 and it was their cheapest size tire. With mounting, balancing and tax it was $77 usd. The brand is "Douglas Tire" and they've been great so far.
  4. Yes that's definitely within view of your balcony. I'm glad it's not too loud. I hope this doesn't become a new Thai nightlife area where they go after work. As long as it's one or two places it shouldn't be too bad but that area has undeveloped land that could turn into anything. There has been some money put into trying to develop some of the land there into food stalls but that appears to be a bad idea as I only saw one or two open at any time.
  5. I will add that if it wasn't on the drinking edge of the cup I wouldn't care.
  6. Went to Time bar today for breakfast. When the waitress brought my cup of coffee there was an ant crawling around the lip of the cup. I showed her and she promptly smashed it and wiped her finger off and pushed the cup towards me. I didn't expect a new brew but a fresh empty cup I thought would be in order. I asked for one and she looked at me like "why?" And then brought me an empty cup. So roast me if you want but are my expectations too high?
  7. Thanks for the descriptive report!
  8. I'm in Ohio currently and I believe we have one of the largest amount of people vaccinated in the US and there is no bloodbath. I don't think it's going poorly here at all. Several months ago we were in trouble with all of the US though. People in Ohio have to register to win as they can not automatically enter you to win. They will draw names and then verify they have had their shots. I feel the governor being first to do this is better than any advertising campaign money spent to encourage vaccination. There has been an increase in people going to get their first shot since this was announced.
  9. Agreed this is a move in the right direction but I think they said 3.months again before they re-evaluate the situation on ASQ. I was starting to consider the 7 day but not now if it's 10 days.
  10. I just heard that in April they only lowered it to 10 days of quarantine. This is still not worth it for me to book for a 2 month trip. Bummer
  11. I will try that. Thank you Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  12. I placed my sim in my phone in Japan once and it drained my prepaid account immediately without one text. I'm not sure what fees it charged but it went very very fast Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  13. Yes I can use transferwise for the 5000 baht transfer but I obviously prefer using my bank as its free and its much quicker for him to receive the money. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  14. Ok, I went to Bangkok bank on my pc and it won't let me transfer unless I confirm a text message sent to my Thai number. My AIS number is prepaid. Is there a way to set my sim to work in the US for a day or two? I see one option is 900 baht for roaming but I'm just too cheap for that. I can transfer through PayPal to the iptv service but they charge a decent amount and I buy these services for many people so there are several transfers I do every month. I've run into this problem twice in the last 5 years and I am looking for a more permanent solution some people may have. Like a Thai number or program that can forward through the internet. I'm surprised that they still only allow phone text confirmations and not email ones. Any help is appreciated. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  15. I use a different sim on my phone when in the US. I don't have my Thai sim set up for international use as I only pay for it when I'm in Thailand. I had this issue a few years ago when I changed phones but it seems to have become a problem again. Next time in Thailand maybe I will get an old Thai cell and set it up to use that sim to get messages on wifi when back in the US if that's an option. Thanks Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  16. I have an BKK account that was opened in Pattaya. It was assigned to my Thai cell number that I only use when I'm there and the cell doesn't work when I'm in the US. My cell phone was reset and now the app doesn't work as BKK bank app is sending a text to confirm it's me trying to use my account. Has anyone found the ability for a US number to be used to receive those texts or some work around? I am guessing I can use my PC but I prefer using my cell and I would rather not have to wait until I'm back in Thailand using that sim to reconfirm that this phone is allowed to use the app. Thank you! 17. For many this the complete stop to tourists has to be a bit like looking behind the curtain to see there is no wizard of Oz. This is the real Thailand and not the one with all the distractions of Pattaya or new tourists to have a chat with. You've realized this will never feel like home and you're smart enough to know you need a pace that feels that way for your mental heath. I believe you owe it to yourself to find what feels like home. For some its family, others it's to be needed at work, and others its the building they reside in. You should take the leap and search for happiness. Pattaya and Thailand will be here if you change your mind but it appears you are making a final move probably from your words above. Too many can't see what you are seeing and they drink or drug too much or even jump as they feel there is no other way. Take the trip to a new or former land and enjoy the journey, it seems you holiday in Thailand has ended. Best Wishes! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  18. I'm a fan of YMH aka Your Mom's House Podcast with a married couple who are comedians. Its really funny and has some dark edgy humor too. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  19. I wish I was coming for a long time as I would grab that corner unit. Nice unit in that price range. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  20. Possibly with the refit of the beer bars his entrance walkway may also be getting an improvement or a separation. This could be the reason for a temporary closure along with the fact that there is no money to be made right now there until things loosen up a bit more. Best wishes for the place to reopen and do well again!
