  1. When I was working in Vientiane, whilst it is a relatively small city, nevertheless it is still a capital city. So most countries have an Embassy there along with numerous NGOs and you get to meet a lot of different nationalities.

I get on with most people (until I don’t 🙄😬) but never really hit it off with the South Africans I met and also the Ukrainians. They were strangely similar in my experience.

Flying from Brisbane to Udon Thani via Singapore and Bangkok next Sunday/Monday.

Because of the amount of crap the wife wants to take over we had to book Thai economy plus from Bangkok to Udon Thani for the extra baggage allowance. The ticket says we get access to a lounge. Just wondering if anyone knows if the Thai domestic lounge at Bangkok has a shower as we have a 4 hour wait at the airport and a freshen up would be nice.

There wasn't a shower in the Thai domestic lounge when I was last in there - November 2023.

    Will do.

Would you have the Udon Thani Thai Immigration address. The missus just asked me where it is.

Don't have the address but I can tell you where it is - on the main road comming from Khon Kaen, its on the left hand side, maybe 5kms before you get to Udon. Not very exact I am afraid but I hope it helps.

Still don't have a definate date when I will be back but when I do I'll message you and see if we can arrange a meet if you are up for it? I'd like to be home just before Songkran but what with one thing and another its a bit difficult to make firm plans right now. Hope to stay till mid May.

    It’s not a “fine”! 👮‍♂️

It was an accident, he got caught up in the cables because he wasn’t looking where he was going.

He was the one who suggested he’d pay me back, not I, I was all for forgetting it and letting it drop. Like the PC did. 🤣

He understands that his inattentiveness caused the computer to be broken and that he was at fault and needs to cover some, or all of the costs of a replacement. I haven’t told him yet, but I’ll stop when he’s paid off £100, which I think is fair.

How are kids ever to learn, if they never have to pay in some form and learn from their mistakes. Hopefully he’ll pay attention next time. 🤪

I’m proud of him as a 13 year old for making the offer of financial recompense for something that he caused, especially as I didn’t see it happen and he could have come up with any excuse rather than tell the truth, but he didn’t, he came to me and owned up to it, 😇 many kids wouldn’t have done.
We’ve always instilled in him to tell the truth and it looks like it’s worked.

He gets £200 a month on his kids cash card to spend as he wishes, so will hardly miss £20 a month.

Kids, especially boys of his age, have their heads in the clouds most of the time, but he’s a loving and thoughtful son and not only has he learned a lesson, he’s gone up greatly in my esteem. 🤗

Young Smiler is also 13 (14 in May) so I know where you are coming from Don.  Really don’t envy young teenagers of today, what with the pressures of social media, teen angst etc etc.

Like you I am also incredibly proud that my lad tells us the truth, I was an absolute nightmare at his age and one of my greatest fears as a Dad was that he would be like me. Thankfully he is not (apart from his build) and long may that continue.

Do you ever use the cut through on the Soi 8 end of the soi Grande is on ? Really handy and a lot of good bars/restaurants down there.

There is a place on the corner of Soi 8 when you make that cut called the tripy or dripy Tap (something like that anyway). It’s on the opposite side to Lolitas 😉. Good food/music/atmosphere and Beer Lao on draft. 👍🍺

I’ll confess to being a little ba$tard at the football years back but quickly grew out of it and took up kickboxing instead. Much more fun and helped me grow up and calm down.

I will never forget the season United were in the 2nd division. We used to go to almost every game on a Bostocks coach from Macclesfield. Now the good thing was it was a time when young teenagers could actually go and support their team (unlike now). The bad side was that, let’s be honest, we were out of control.

I didn’t so much grow out of it - we moved to South Wales when I was 16. Looking back it was thankfully life changing for me. Grudgingly and with no choice I started playing rugby and learned to channel my aggression into the game which I continued to play into my late thirties.

  7. Over new year’s in the village seemed like everyone had cold/flu of some sort or other. Not seen Mrs smiler so ill for a long time, certainly worse then when we all had covid.

TBH I’m still not over it.

  8. Not at an airport but it happpened while I was waiting to go through Immigration coming into Thailand at the bridge in Nong Khai. Was a Friday afternoon and the place was absolutely rammed. I was playing backgammon on my phone, not really paying too much attention to what was going on around me when suddenly all hell breaks loose at the desk about 3 or 4 meters in front. Immigration officers running about, shouting but above all the sound of a women screaming.

A white woman, I am guessing from Russia(??) was refused entry and went into meltdown, then she started tearing her clothes off. Not something you see every day at immigration, nice pair of tits by the way....
