  1. Following him for years. Taught then moved to admin/IT I believe. Gets a lot of free travel from gov tourism interests and for-profit travel organizations. Did us a great service with mostly accurate info during the height of the current plague. And his stories and photos of mostly obscure areas of the country are enjoyable. Nice to have him around.

    Beaches

Pattaya beach is dead, hardly anyone on it day or night except for homeless, derelicts, drunks sleeping it off and the all too rare local. Before Covid the place was busy with the transient bus loads of budget tourists on their way to Koh Lan and elsewhere--rarely hanging at the beach.. The "saving" of the beach with tanker loads of sand from elsewhere seems to have turned it into a lifeless, sterile beach that hardly anyone wants to spend time on. As opposed to Jomtien beach which is quite busy with Thai families, groups of friends, couples and beach lovers of all kinds on most days. Now I just saw that the City Fathers in all their worldly wisdom have allocated 1 billion baht to do the same thing that destroyed Pattaya beach to Jomtien---tanker in tons of sand, chop down many of the old broad leaved shade trees and make it safe for busloads of non-existant budget tourists. I guess they call it progress!!!!
  3. Pattaya beach now only fit for busloads of budget tourists, you know, the ones who may never return...
  4. The usual laughable and unenforceable rules they continually come up with. Along Jomtien beach a few days ago not a single one of these aimed at individuals was being followed; will take an army of enforcers to make these rules work.
  5. Hope this does not mean cutting down the beautiful old shade trees that provide much needed relief from the sun. If they make it look like the now sterile seeming Pattaya beach it will be a great loss.
  6. Thanks Evil. Does the cash card work in all of these new segments or is separate payment required?
  7. ”Animal Kingdom”. Terrific. Ellen Barkin as the grande dame Of a dysfunctional Southern California crime family.
  8. Mart is 2 years. Booze shop only about 6 months and they are so deliberate with their studied disdain I choose to go elsewhere before I snap and say something I might later regret.
  9. Been going to Mart nearly 2 years and never even a small sign of recognition. Same at Villa. Worst is the small liquor shop on Theprassit around the corner from Mart, always spend couple thou baht there but never a hello or thanks and in fact they even studiously avoid looking at me at all. Will be taking my custom elsewhere.
  10. Mirrors my feelings about the place---liked it better in those days but the passing years have made the town a little more user friendly. Still, that old feeling of getting into town and knowing that just about everyone you saw anywhere was focused on the same thing-- the ladies!--is long gone. It was that "Man's Town" aspect that made it so much fun and so different than any other place. That character of the city has vanished and been replaced by hundreds of tour buses, throngs of tourists for whom Pattaya is just another stop on a pre-packaged holiday. The ladies are still here and easily found if wanted, but that old character has been swamped by the new and makes the town seem far less unique.
  11. Missing was good but his movie about race car driver N. Lauda was terrific. Watch it if available somewhere.
  12. Was excellent! Hope they do another season. First series excellent. Hope the follow up is as good.
