Conclusion:

We both liked Ao Pai Beach more, which is narrow but one can quickly walk to Hat Sai Keo. Everything is cheaper, there are less tourists and especially less Chinese who can be annoying.

The hotel was more expensive but worth it.

We never found a restaurant in Samet where we wanted to eat twice. My GF blames the Khmer which are working all over the island and probably in the kitchens as well. I think it is because there are mainly 1-day tourists who will not come back to the same place twice.

Let's see, which bay we will vchoose next. It might take some time until we go back, because now the time has come for me to earn some money.

Where? In China!!!

Thanks mate, food for thought for our next trip. We'll be down Sattahip way anyway.

Yes, off to work for those annoying Chinese :default_biggrin:

Prices for Massage a bit higher as almost everything else.

I stayed at Vongduen beach resort when I went there. Some good food to be had at some of the little restaurants along that beach......

Sandflies: didn't have any encounters with them in Ao Pai. I read that they were active in the northern bay, so I didn't go there. At the last evening in Ao Wong Duean a large bump came up, yesterday and today about 10 more itchy spots around my ankles developed. Worse than a mosquito bite.

GF had no issues, usually she is eaten by mosquitos alive while I am spared when we sit together.

After a beach massage we walked to Sai Kaew Beach for dinner.

No speed boats, (almost) no tourists, but the best was .... no obnoxious Chinese.

Selfie Maraton. When we came back from dinner it was dark, but they were still shooting selfies.

There are better beached on Samet than Ao Phai, though one should find a section without any rocks, especially at high tide:

Low tide:

The rain left few sand at Samed Villa Resort. Most likely they will restore the beach at the end of the rainy season.

We spend little time in the water, better to go to Koh Larn or Ao Khai. Though currently there is not much more to do on Samed. We intended to stay for 3 nights but then decided to book only 2. Without the nightlife it is a bit boring.

Next to the  Samed Villa you can find the  Silver Sands. Can be booked with Agoda, I believe a bit cheaper but not as good as the Samed Villa.
A minimart is behind the Silver Sand Bar, the bar being closed. On the right hand side is a simple restaurant that sold drinks. Not very good drinks, so we switched to Breezers.

We enjoyed the second dinner in the Villa Samed, food was nice. Breakfast on the first morning was buffet style while the second moring a la carte was offered. Still plenty of choices and one could order as you could eat.

If you have never been to Koh Samed, you should go before the crowds are back. Don't forget mosquito repellent: got bitten by those nasty sand flies 6 time, despite showering in the repellent and wearing long pants most of the time.
