That is why not many anywhere - they break down a lot.  Mate had one too - heaps of trouble, especially when it rained.

Italians build Beautiful bikes but had major reliability issues in the past. Hell of a lot better now. Electrics were always a problem. MV Augusta have some absolutely stunning bikes in their range now, draw jopping.

A mate had one of those and brought it with him for a trip down the Phillip Island (2 day trip).  Besides the fact that he couldn't really ride it (he was all show and no go), the bike kept breaking down.  It often rained and when it did, he broke down or slowed.  We had to make him leave with a dealer in one town after about the third break down - and we then took turns carrying him on the back of our bikes.  He was not invited back again.

Not sure how you can ride fast with forward controls & apehangers.

Never got on with the riding position when riding mate's cruisers. Could never own one.

Always rode sports bikes until I bought the current Z800 with a upright naked bike riding position. More similar to a motocross bike really.

My Harley had straight bars & normal footpegs,so if I wanted to hammer on then I could lean forward into the wind with no problem.

Commonly known as "The Flying Brick"

No - that was the 1980s version.  The one pictured was the 1991 16V upgraded version - different head cover - the 70th anniversary version had the BMW blue leather seat and BMW pearl white fairing.  I had that one for years - put on a staintune exhaust and a new chipset (forgot name) and it flew. I rode it many times to Phillip Island and all over the place - best touring days of my life on that bike (no speed limiter on the back).

OK Robert, your likely correct mate.

But in the UK, when talking about BMW's with the inline 4-pot horizontal engine, they are normally referred to as "the Brick".

I've never had or ridden one, but mates who did have them reckoned they were very good and reliable.

Latest GS1250's seems to have reliability issues, same with the KTM Super Duke 1290.

And these are bikes you ain't seeing much change out of 20 large.

Interesting Galen, as i posted previously ref' the GS1200 that i had a few years back, they were not as reliable as BMW would like you to believe.

What problems are they having now mate, mechanical or maybe issues with the vast array of electronic rider aids ???
