COVID 19 GLOBAL

Better than a doughnut or a beer?

As US officials scramble to convince citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19, one state is
putting its money where its mouth is – offering millions in lottery prizes for those who have
received an injection.

Ohio governor Mike DeWine tweeted overnight that his state will give a $1 million prize away
every week for five weeks in a lottery open to residents over the age of 18 who have received at
least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

“I know that some may say, ‘DeWine, you’re crazy! This million-dollar drawing idea of yours is
a waste of money,’” he tweeted.

“But truly, the real waste at this point in the pandemic – when the vaccine is readily available to
anyone who wants it – is a life lost to COVID-19,” the Republican governor continued.

Life globally will not return to normal for two or three years based on the rate of the current vaccination rollout, it has been warned

Why are you posting articles from 5 months ago?

My 4 year old daughter has more common sense and better grasp of what's going on than you. It's basically saying there will be things like travel restrictions until everywhere gets vaccinated enough. It's hardly rocket science, even Thailand are saying their opening up is dependant on vaccinate roll out.

Away back to whatever 'Window Lickers R Us' website you lifted that from, and try and find something more up to date. Or alternatively don't, it's tedious as f**k, and just shows how detached you actually are from reality.

Safe stay and seek help!

Infection numbers are going to go up no matter, whether from whatever variant or from opening up.

It's moreso now that the chain is broke by the vaccines, instead of infections, hospitalisations, deaths.

Vaccines don't stop infection, they stop people getting seriously ill and dying.

Though of course the vaccines are not 100%, so more infections will obviously cause more deaths in the small number the vaccines don't work for.  But it will be a very small number, if vaccines need tweaked, they can be quite quickly.

From the BBC -

People should stop panicking about every new variant - scientist

People need to "stop panicking" every time a new coronavirus variant is identified in the UK, a leading scientist has said, amid concern about the growing number of cases of the Indian variant.

Professor Robert Dingwall, who is a member of the government's New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group, said that while the Indian variant may be capable of becoming the dominant variant in the UK, the risk of a surge in deaths or hospital admissions remains low.

Prof Dingwall, of the School of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University, told the PA news agency: "This variant seems to be better managed by the vaccines than the South African variant so that vaccinated people have only a very low risk of infection that is likely to be mild."

Is it the "people" who should stop worrying or is it the media reporting on these things that should stop with the hysteria surrounding the variants that cause the worry who should report with a more levelheaded tone?

I know....asking the impossible on that.

We now have polls in the States that show vaccinated people are more frightened of going out and about in public places than those who haven't been vaccinated. Why is that? Could it be from the news reports they see reporting that are always accompanied with the usual hysterics about additional variants and waves, or so-called medical professionals who constantly move the goalposts with each press conference when making proclamations on when we can get back to some semblance of normal?

What polls? Who are the so-called professional? Stories & sources please.

It would be nice to know what you are writing about.

Anecdotally, I spoke with an old friend yesterday in Tracy, CA yesterday who mentioned his ex- (10-yrs together) recently died from Covid. Seems her son was home sick, she insisted on taking care of him, and became infected & died.

Currently i'm more concerned about the Government's reaction, than i am about the variant.

Well, times like this i'm always reminded how lucky we are not to have Corbyn and his band of Marxists in Government, Covid would have already been used to turn the UK into a Communist state.

With Boris, i think worse case scenario would be June final easing put back a tad, but i think even that's unlikely.

Progress in the USA. Basically if you're vaccinated you're good to go mask-less.

If not...all bets are off for the time being. Covid is still out there and might get you. ☠️🐵

. . .

People vaccinated against Covid-19 can go without masks indoors and outdoors, CDC says

People fully vaccinated against Covid-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, except under certain circumstances, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.

. . .

Some people may choose to continue wearing masks even if they are fully vaccinated, and that's OK, federal Covid-19 response leaders said Thursday.

"People have to make their own personal choice," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during the White House Covid-19 briefing.

"There's absolutely nothing wrong with an individual who has a certain level of risk aversion, as we know the risk is extremely low of getting infected whether you're indoors or outdoors. But there are those people who don't want to take that bit of a risk and there's nothing wrong with that and they shouldn't be criticized."

Yes, about your government, you should be. That you don't have a Corbyn-led government was a blessing for the people of the UK. Unfortunately for the US, we have 50 governors who set policy regarding the Covid mandates and restrictions, and some of them, such as the Gov in my state of California, who probably has Jeremy on speed dial, was way too heavy handed on restrictions toward school closures and business, as well as outdoor activities in public places like parks, beaches, etc...being closed down to the public for long stretches of time. Outdoor activities, with maintaining social distance, were not a spreader of this thing, and they are now confirming it, though many astute minds.....ahem.....have known this for a long time already.

We in California now have basically a month to go until all restrictions are eliminated. The word was, up until a couple days ago, that mask wearing would still be mandated in indoor places but now, even that seems to be going away, and we all can once again walk in to a fast food joint or a 7-11, and order a Big Mac or Big Gulp, and be on our way.

I'm not sure, but I think mask wearing will still be mandated on an aircraft. But inside an airport, maybe not. No idea.

The problem  about stopping wearing a mask is that you would then have to walk around wearing a T-Shirt displaying "I have had both my vaccination shots" or risk hostility from a mask wearing indignant public. 🤮

Turns out the UK decision to give a longer gap between jabs was indeed the right one for most scenarios.

Who would have thought that trusting the guys that know about these things would be a better option than trusting the guys who just wanted to cover their asses by saying it's not been proven in trials.  Knowledge and experience wins over the namby pambys.

Apparently he had serious issues with Diabetes, having already lost 3 toes. Posted on another forum. Probably more likely the problem than AZ

Saw that too on PT. From his website Jan, 2020.

The past few years have been extremely challenging for me. Due to diabetes (inherited from my dear mother), I had to have three toes amputated from my left foot. In fact, I was lucky not to lose my left leg, according to the Diabetes Specialists at Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok. Looking at the positive side, these Thai doctors saved my leg.
