Indonesia closes its borders....

"Indonesia has suspended all issuing of visa waivers/visa free/visa on arrival. Still possible to enter as a tourist with a regular visa + health declaration from local health authority. Still possible to enter with KITAS/P etc."

Post from a member of Indo forum, concerning last minute visa run

"Yes written in a rush from the airport ironically, otw to malaysia the day before that closed and now suddenly otw back today before indonesia closes
That was a close one hahaha"

This will end with every country in the whole world closing its borders.

Which in itself mathematically doesn't make sense concerning the global number of infected people.

Well, yes, it will only spread inside your own country.....

The madness has no limit.

One day history will judge all this, and its consequences (economic, human and social) to which at the moment everybody is blind.

And will analyse "was it all worth it ?"  A case study of "a worldwide social experiment" to be teached in universities in 10 years.

At least (if I am still alive) I will be able to say, like a veteran "I was there" ....

Japan still stating business as usual for the Olympics except all competitors have to be in quarantine for 14 days on arrival and wear face masks when competing.

Estimate is at least a $1 trillion USD hit to the world economy. It's a legitimate topic to exam, was it worth it. The answer will depend on what price society is willing to pay to save a life.

Coronavirus update: COVID-19 likely to cost economy $1 trillion during 2020, says UN trade agency

Definitively way more than that.

Just the US FED is throwing in 700 B, and Trump promessed 1 Trillion in various aids and free checks in 1 week.

Dont dream all of this will be paid back, much will go on the national debt, and a lot will be paid by the taxpayer.

And whe are just at the beginning of this, economically speaking. It will be years before a serious tally can be made.

Price of life is a delicate subject. Life HAS a price, with a vaste range of values depending of country and social / economic status of the individual. But that is a topic that very few economist or sociologues will dare to comment or publizise on !

And then you have the social / human cost. How many 100.000's jobs will be gone in this turmoil ? Because have no illusion, of all the people being laid off or to be laid off not all will return to their job as before. Many of those jobs will simply have gone due to simple economics  (plus a bit of opportunity taking by employers)

There is also the immense damage to social cohesion. Since decades governments and other organisation have worked to improve the social cohesion in society; dimishing the fractures (think Yellow Jacket), and suddenly we ORDER people to "de-socialize", stay away from each other.  People with the virus being isolated from society, countries being pointed by the finger, etc ....  This WILL leave deep marks in society I fear.

Oh no, some Youtube "expert" made a video on the so called Spanish Flu. What the fuk would Youtube know.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4czg3aKmfXs

The video was made in 2018 to remember the 100 year anniversary.

It speculates what might happen if a pandemic occurred in 2018.

I wonder, when the Germans invaded Poland, France, Belgium, Holland etc.... did the people did a run for toilet paper as first priority ?

And during the London blitz ?

Good to see that since that time we have become more developped, better educated, in a general much smarter.....

And without distinction of race or nationality .....

Now I start to believe again in humanity. 😂😂😂😄😄😄😄😁😁😁😁

On the Indo forum, panic starts for the "professionnal visa dodgers" staying here on visa waivers and VOA since long time.

They suddenly realize that non only KL and SGP is closed to them now, but also that even if they go elsewhere they will not be allowed back in Indonesia as visa waivers and VOA have been suspended.

No more vlogging or working from Starbucks .....

If I read this right HKG will from now one quarantine ANYONE arriving in the city....

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/health-environment/article/3075731/coronavirus-imported-cases-surge-eight-more-test

"Centre for Health Protection controller Dr Wong Ka-hing said the government had extended its mandatory quarantine to cover anyone arriving in the city, starting at midnight on Wednesday."

And when you see this clown walking in the airport, I suggest to send him directly to a psychiatric asylium....

I can't see that this notice has been posted and it's important.  The stricter rules for entering Thailand (health certificate and proof of US$100,000 in travel insurance) now apply to travelers from the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, several other European countries and parts of Japan.  Keep in mind the restrictions specify the country of origin of the flight, NOT citizenship.  Presumably U.S. citizens who spent the 14 days in Canada prior to a flight departing a Canadian airport would escape the stricter rules for entering Thailand.

But, and it's a big buttb.jpg'  I wouldn't want to bet the ranch on that.  Immigration officers in every country have a huge amount of discretion in applying rules.

TAT update: Thailand Public Health Ministry updated COVID-19 control measures for travellers

The Ministry of Public Health has provided further details on measures for travellers arriving in Thailand as per their flight’s origins: Disease Infected Zones, countries with ongoing local transmission, and other destinations.

(Note- This is the section that's relevant . My highlight:)

Requirements for travellers from the ongoing local transmission areas:
France, Spain, the United States of America, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Great Britain, Japan (specific cities, picture 1), and Germany are defined as countries with ongoing local transmission as of 13 March, 2020, 19.00 Hrs.

Per the Royal Thai Government’s announcement yesterday (17 March, 2020), before check-in at the airport of origin, travellers must show the documents to the airlines, including:
– Health certification describing “No evidence of COVID-19 infection in the previous 48 hours and no signs of sickness in the 14 days prior to the departure date.
– Health insurance (in an amount of US$ 100,000 that should cover all expenditures of medical treatment while travelling abroad. Travellers need to purchase health insurance before travelling).

  • Travellers arriving in Thailand must complete the health form (T.8 form) accurately and truthfully (or the AOT Airports Application).
  • Travellers with a fever and at least one of the following symptoms: runny nose, sore throat, and difficulty breathing must notify disease control officers at the quarantine office immediately upon arrival in Thailand.
  • All travellers will pass a fever screening through a thermal scan. Travellers who meet the criteria of surveillance will be referred to a designated hospital. All travellers are recommended to implement control for observation (meaning supervision without quarantine) in order to ensure self-monitoring at their residence for no less than 14 days and comply with the recommendations.
  • In the case of foreigners, they are recommended to implement self-monitoring at their registered hotels/accommodation. The location must match the information which was given in the required channel of communication.
  • In the case of Thai people, they are recommended to implement self-monitoring at their own residence. The location must match the information which was given in the required channel of communication.
  • The aforementioned travellers must record their location with the disease control officers in the required channel of communication. If those travellers exhibit clinical symptoms, they have to report to the disease control officers within three hours.
  • They have to obtain permission from the officers for going out of the hotels/residences when deemed necessary.

No, it's a real story that originated in the U.S. The Newport Oregon (population 10,680)  Police Dept. had a Facebook post that went viral:

bog-paper.JPG

However, it was intended as a pro-active joke to remind people not to call 9-1-1 unnecessarily.  NO ONE ACTUALLY CALLED 9-1-1 ABOUT TOILET PAPER!

Here's what the follow-up post stated:

The Newport Police Facebook often, as it says, delivers "important and serious information with a said of humor."  Here's a recent post:

Trust me this will not end until after the mass vaccinations are rolled out.....They have slowly been taking peoples rights to opt out of vaccinations away for years now but its been going to slow.....But now they have a unprecedented opportunity to force the vaccination issue  world wide....A dream come true for those in power.....

UK and US added to the list of high risk countries that means anyone who has visited these countries needs a 'health certificate' and must quarantine for 24 days if they are allowed to fly. Whether or not this is enforced is another question.
