Wonder if like with a lot of Thai projects they'll finish enlarging the drain openings, realize after they're done it didn't help, then rip up the road again and do what they should have done in the first place and put in larger drain pipes with a pumping station to get the water across 3rd Rd.

This is more like what they need.  These things are currently getting planted under Walking Street.

thats part of the corruption game here ... make once, make again, make again, update and upgrade with the backhanders and brown paper bags going to the relevant contract signers and contract givers

I was a little worried when my lady announced a week ago they were going to come today and cut down a beautiful, old tree in our neighborhood (a blackboard or devil tree). Apparently the lady that owns the house across the soi from it complained about the dropped leaves making a mess, plus my lady didn't like the aroma of the flowers when the tree was in bloom. Told them both I thought those weren't very good reasons to cut down the tree.

I wasn't too concerned though as they had mentioned it was the electric company that was going to do the chopping, so figured they were going to just trim back the branches that ran into and around the electric lines. And as it turned out, I was right.

To the electric company's credit, they did a decent job on the trim. So the tree gets to live on.

The big crane is back at the Beach Rd pumping station. The big piece of equipment that was removed last Dec has now been repaired and the crane was getting ready to lift it back into place. They better work fast as I'm hearing some thunder rumblings outside now.

A cheap shelter for shops on the corner of Soi Love Inn and Arunotai is done.

A lass I know is waiting to move in and sell pappaya salad and noodle dishes.  5,000 baht per month rent so profit of maybe 200 baht per day to pay that and electric.  Not easy in these times with the amount of competition around.

What I thought was going to be a new market near Nirun now looks like a new open air restaurant

Stalls for food again I think.  These rows of what look like paint pots, kinda on a grid layout, are covering openings to underfloor ducting for a common extraction system, ending up at a big exhaust pump behind the brick section at the left hand side of the pic.  You can see the stainless chimney above it.  I couldn't think of anything else that would use extraction like that.

Had a look this morning to see how the path along the south Pattaya canal is faring.
P5180003.jpg

For the most part the path is clear.
P5180008.jpg

Some sections had a bit of overgrowth, but was still passable.
P5180012.jpg

Other parts you need to duck low to get through.
P5180014.jpg

If the water was cleaner and didn't have the scent of a sewer, the canal would make for a scenic walk.
P5180015.jpg

Probably could have pushed my way through this heavy overgrowth, but didn't fancy having to pull thorns and ticks out of, and off my legs to do so.
P5180017.jpg

This is the short, upstream section east of the makeshift bridge.
P5180023.jpg

P5180027.jpg

I'd be careful driving a vehicle over the underground section of the canal.

They've been working for a couple of years on trying to solve the flooding on the road parallel to the railroad. Last year was digging a deeper channel on the east side of the road and installing more pumps.
P5210001.jpg

That hasn't worked, so now they're digging out the ground cover on the other side of the road.
P5210005.jpg

And knocking holes in the crash barrier at the low spots to allow the flood water to drain on both sides of the road.
P5210003.jpg

And over at the Soi 9 police station, the latest in car accessories on display.

First time I've seen the BIB set up shop in a private business. Prom Guesthouse yesterday evening. The cashier at Prom told me they were processing vendor permits for the street carts. They were quite slow about it too. I watched them for close to an hour walking back and forth from the blue cart in the background with various bits of paper. They were still working on that one permit when I left.

A few outlets open at the corner of Soi Love Inn and Arunotai.  Doesn't take much to set up a business here.

What I've noticed with the opening of the new markets and food outlets on that corner is a big uptick in customer traffic in the area. What was previously a rather dead area now has a positive vibe to it.

The new park in Jomtien. Think it's going to be more of a mosquito magnet than anything worth visiting.
P5260041.jpg

And a new water park under development near by.
P5260048.jpg

P5260049.jpg

And looks like more development planned for the future.

P5260054.jpg

Certainly no shortage of water in the area.

Looks like time has run out for the group of beer bars and shops along Naklua Soi 33.
P5300001.jpg

P5300003.jpg

P5300006.jpg

Whatever development is going in there it will take up the entire length of the soi and half the land in between two soi's.
P5300008.jpg

If there were more feet on the ground here, this would make for a good post in the where was this taken topic.

Another long time Pattaya bar, Buffalo Bar is heading into the dustbin of history. Don't think we can blame it in on the pandemic though as the bar's decline predated the China virus.

Not sure what this hole in the floor will be. Fountain maybe?
P6080011.jpg

Never noticed before, but most, if not all the bars on the south facing side of Tree Town have 2nd floor seating.
