I've experienced the same, although my plane had no fuel to make for a nice visual as it was a sailplane. I had done an off field landing on a dirt strip. Relayed a message via radio back to the home airport to have the tow plane come and get me. Soon after tow plane landed, we hooked up the tow rope and away we went. Only problem was the dirt strip was too bumpy and my landing gear retract lever bumped out of the indent and the gear retracted while I was only 1/3 of the way down the field. Weak link in the tow rope broke as it's designed to do, and there I sat watching the tow plane continue on without me.
