Bell Ringers

What bar was this? That bartender in the black shirt can ring my bell anytime!

I've done it a few times, never in an agogo, always a beer bar that I was a regular or semi-regular. Always livens the place up a bit and if the staff know you, they are appreciative of the gesture. I've been the beneficiary of a free drink from more bell ringers while a customer in a bar than what I've done, so I don't mind on rare occasions doing it too.

Tell you one thing though. If were able to get back there sometime later this year, like around the Christmas and New Year holidays, there's sure as hell going to be a lot of bell ringing going on by a bunch of folks, and I'll be clanging that sucker a time or two myself.

Once in Mistys and once in FLB years ago when the rates were much better.

Bell ringers and birthday parties etc seem to be much less frequent these days. Most parties are Bar openings or anniversaries, seldom do we see balloons in the front of a bar for an actual customer celebrating something. Also fewer bars with a "hall of fame" on the mirrors.

Guess the balloon chasers are out of work these days. I can recall a party in Mistys when a couple turned up, then got promptly told to either buy a drink back for the bloke who's party it was or F- off by Andy 🤣🤣

That’s another good point......eg 10 drinks @80B getting 70B/£, definitely not the same price as 10x150B at 40B/£

One of the last ladies I had in 2012 was on Soi 6, she was a veteran of the game and a real sweetheart, spoke great English and had a couple of foreign kids. I don’t know if she was already working in the late 90’s, but she said there were nights way back when guys were paying 10K LT just because they had it, and exchange rates were so good.

I would never base my holiday simply on that, but no doubt it’s an issue and affects both the punter & the ladies

I can recall ringing the bell in the FLB once many years ago, and have done so a couple of times in smaller beer bars over the years; but I wouldn't dream of doing it in a go-go bar. I can also remember staff seemingly coming out of the woodwork at the sound of the bell, too - one can certainly get more than one bargained for, lol...

Ironically, my biggest ever bar bill was on a crazy night where I spent 30K in Secrets without ringing the bell - there were hardly any other customers but I got all the girls good and plastered - was fun but no way would I spend that much again.

Was that the one located in the old Made in Thailand complex (Wok N Rok), had a pool table and you could order chinese food?. I also think @Nightcrawlertook me to the other bar just off the Bukhao area if I recall before Treetown made an appearance.

Not a bell ring but there was a bar in Patpong where there were usually 30+ girls all wearing their swimsuits on their wrists where as soon as I sat down I'd get a crowd of them jump on me.Fresh in from the sandpit I just had to buy them all a drink and grope as many as I could.

I have rung the bell a few times usually on my birthday or my last night but it was always in a bar where I was a regular & there's been quite a few of those going back over the last 40 years.

Correctamundo. I used to drink there every day for an hour or so. Didn't last for very long. I think it was called "just another beer bar" or something like that. Nice atmosphere. The same bar as Binlid  mentioned

Is that where we got kicked out of the men's lavatories?.

Not going to ask.....😂

Well, I feel it my moral duty to explain the unfortunate incident... 😊

While I was enjoying a refreshing cold beer at the bar, Butch went off to the toilet.

Shortly after I heard a loud commotion coming from the communal lavatory at the end of the complex and screaming could be heard above the loud music.

It transpires that Butch had exposed himself to the elderly women who was collecting 5 baht entrance fees. Next thing I know is that he is being escorted  from the premises by two burly looking  ladyboys and was not seen till the next day.

I paid his bar bill. That was the extent of my involvement in the whole sordid affair

I feel sure that there was a reasonable explanation for what happened and that Butch will be anxious to uphold his sound character 😁😁

Actually in R-Con Plaza on the way towards Made in Thailand from Buakhao.  One More Beer Bar was the name IIRC.  Found this online but still not 100% sure.

To the best of my recollection the only time I have ever done so was at an FLB party night.

It was traditional that the Party hosts rung the bell a couple of times  to "loosen up" the girls before the highlight of the night being the dance competition. My "plat de jour" b/fine for the night was Beryl who in my book was odds on to win the competition because:

1. She was always the first to get all her kit off and

2. I was one of the judges! 🤣

The two lads from the USA hosting the night seemed most reluctant to put their hands in their pockets so I foolishly decided to show them up by ringing the bell.

Seemed like a good idea until Ben gave me the bill.

A beer bar in the OTOP complex in Patong had a fair deal, regardless of number of customers and girls the bell ring was 1,000 bt and included a free tee shirt.

This is a common thing to have a set Bell ring price for the staff in the Philippines. I tried to get this for Secrets but was told terrible idea by the powers to be. Shortly after i left I guess it was now a good idea as they started it. It had to be his idea :default_getdown:

Many bars in Patong did the same , but it always seemed more of a rip off to me , they were given shot glasses with a brightly coloured "cocktail" in it  , mostly fruit juice , colouring and cheap local hooch ..  I always prefer when the girl gets a drink she actually wants ..

The only problem with a number of bars in Angeles is that the set fee is rather high compared to the number of girls dancing or included.  Worked well for Dollhouse, Crystal Club and the bigger bars but some of the smaller bars it would be better just to buy a number of drinks for those in the vicinity.

As much as my brain isn't always focused after a few drinks seeing a bell ring cost of 4000 pesos when only 10 girls look likely to get a drink isn't the most economical choice although obviously the set cost allows a better idea of how much the damage will end up.
