You should see some of the CCTV footage.

coxyhog
Went to our local Sainsburys this afternoon to do my mum's shopping & while I was in there the missus filled up her car with gogo juice. She's going to the smoke tomorrow otherwise we wouldn't have bothered. Hopefully all the wankers are full now & we're getting back to a semblance of normality.

Weird one that as the bridge sign says 15' 6'' which is usually not a worry and I'm surprised that he didn't make it through. It looks like he may have dropped the suspension on the unit but the trailer still looks pumped up ? I've often wondered how accurate these signs are for bridge heights. When the road gets resurfaced do the bridges get measured again ?

I gave up HGV driving in 96, but afaik the rules are still pretty much the same. HGV Drivers can drive for up to 45 hours a week, which is 9 hours a day, maximum 4.5 hours with a 45 minute break. This can be extended to 10 hours a day twice a week, with a maximum amount of weekly driving set to 56 hours. That's driving, as for working, a driver can do what is called Duty hours, up to 15 hours a day (used to be called a 15 hour spreadover as it was within a 24 hour period) as the rest period was 9 hours in any 24. "An HGV driver must rest for a minimum of nine hours within a 24-hour period up to three times a week, which allows them to work three 15-hour days in the same week" . source So, that's 3 x 15 hour days plus potentially another 3 days of 13 hour days as rest period needs to be 11 hours for the remaining. That's the thick end of a possible 84 hour week right there. Thus, the answer is most definitely not to get them to work longer hours. working 80+ hours a week is not uncommon, but let me tell you from experience, it is debilitating, tiring and with the added fun of everyone else treating you like a bit of turd. The non driving time can be spent unloading, loading, waiting for a container, waiting in a yard or any other aspect of work which isn't driving. Good post but just to add that although you're correct about the 56hrs driving in a week the next week he can only do 34hrs as it's a maximum of 90hrs driving in any 2 week period. Last week I did 5 days and worked just over 55hrs. 5 hrs of that was spent waiting for an empty trailer and the next day was 3 hrs sitting around waiting for a tyre fitter to come out to me after I had a blow out on the A34. 8 hrs pay for doing sweet FA will do me. 5

There's agencies paying more but I'm content with what I'm getting and the work I'm doing. Last week I top lined over a grand and this week should be the same and this is doing 5 day weeks but it does include Saturday and Sunday. The last time I was here and working I was lucky to get 400-450 a week. Different areas around the country could be paying more and some less. 1 3

coxyhog
The army have been called in & according to the news things are getting back to normal. On the way back from the gym today I passed four petrol stations. Tesco-closed,Shell-closed,Texaco-closed.Sainsburys open but the queue was horrendous. KhunDon
I spent £98 in the funfair at the weekend and finally grabbed a 1/2 gallon of fuel. Unfortunately it was petrol and my car is diesel, but I put it on eBay and sold it for £155 and the buyer collects. Result. 🤗
