Horizondave 4,540
Was determined to have a little walk along the Grand Union which is a couple of minutes away from my place. Started at West Drayton station (Grand Union adjacent) and took the 1 hour walk towards Uxbridge. I took the photos along the way so will just add them here. As canals go it isn't the most scenic but a pleasant walk away from traffic. Observations - some pretty sad looking boats, many moored and looking like they have been stranded for years, some interesting names as well Quite a few anglers not catching much from my conversations with them. Noticed a friendly guy walking his Filapina partner, nice day for a walk and made me wish my partner was with me. Loads of bikes zipping by and quite a lot of pussies living on boats, the 4 legged furry ones not the Thailand beauties. One particular interesting boat among the photos which looked out of place, looked more like she should have been in the ocean. Painter 2,499
That orange ships lifeboat looks a bit out of place! I suppose you wouldn't miss it if you were returning after a night in the pub... Always thought if I didn't live ofmthe coast it would have to be near part of the canal network. Thanks for posting.

Used to go to a pub on the bridge in that road but now it is bistro bar called Canal Cottages and I walked out 10 seconds after entry.... I will check about Quakers but I am not certain I am up for a bit of Granny night....at my age!

Was quite a shock to this big orange lifeboat coming down the canal. The Grand Union does come down to London and the Thames but probably just pleasure cruising.

Smiler 718
I have said it before but... If I had discovered canal boat life 15 years ago I would be living on a boat now. Mate of mine inherited one about 5 years ago and I really enjoy my time, when I get the chance, to spend a few days on it. Great way to see the countryside.

KhunDon 2,828
I always fancied a boat on the broads, because the chances of a broad on a boat are long past now. 😟 1

dcfc2007 3,510
Great photos thanks. If I strolled along by the river where I live with a camera I'd have it nicked in seconds and be 6 foot underwater with the shopping trolleys and the used heroin needles.
